RLPF – Classroom Edition for Private Schools
Real Life Personal Financial offers young adults and teachers a deep level of education in personal finance, career selection and funding for postsecondary education. Unlike many financial literacy courses, which research documents provide no impact on subsequent financial behaviors, RLPF is designed as a one-semester, online, social studies course, to promote thinking, decision making and achieve long-term financial goals. It is modeled after a three-week intensive summer program, the Game of Real Life, for underserved sophomores. The outcomes from the Game were outstanding with 100% of students graduating from high school, 98% entering college and 91.7% graduating from college in 6 years.
D&A’s objective is to replicate these outcomes in public schools, charter schools, private schools, home schools and for individuals enrolled in the course.
RLPF is tailored to “speak” to three different high school students:
- Students in classrooms with teachers implementing a Thinking Instructional Methodology. In TIM, students gain a deep understanding of personal finances, careers, funding postsecondary education and how to problem-solve real life events. The course is challenging with thinking, not lectures and memorization.
- Independent study for credit recovery, dropout retention, homeschool and students studying independently.
- Dual Credit, academically advanced students, seeking real-life relevance.
When students take responsibility for this knowledge, they will have a vision, life plan and ability to make wise decisions to become financially secure and ultimately financially independent. These are goals every parent wants for their children. RLFM is the one high school course that can help young adults navigate their future.
Who should offer RLFM? – Texas Public Schools, US Public Schools, Charter Schools, Dual Credit, Private Schools, Homeschool, and Independent Study.
Students say they want real life. The world is complex. Do they deserve to develop the thinking ability and understanding to navigate the complexities of life and be prepared for the knowledge economy of the 21st century?
